What is BarCamp?

BarCamp is an international network of user generated conferences (or unconferences) – open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants. The first BarCamps focused on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats. The format has also been used for a variety of other topics, including public transit, health care, and political organizing.

BarCamp Southwest Florida announced for Saturday January 30th

(Fort Myers, FL) – Barcamp Southwest Florida has announced their 1st conference will be held on Saturday, January 30th from 9:00am-4:00pm at the Edison State College, Fort Myers Campus. Registration for this free educational event is available at http://barcampswfl.com/

BarCamp is an international network of ‘un-conferences,’ where the content is provided by the participants. Attendees register for the event and are invited to prepare a workshop on blogging, social media, personal branding, new technology, public relations, citizen journalism, digital photography or graphic design. At the BarCamp kick-off, speakers sign up for slots on a first-come basis. Guests may see as many as eight different educational presentations in a high-energy, fast-paced day.

Early BarCamp events focused on web applications and open source technologies. However, the un-conference format has evolved into discussion on public transit, health care and political organization. In the spirit of open source sharing, BarCamp Southwest Florida is a free event supported by local businesses: Jaguar Data Systems, Inc.; Atlantic.net; Beverage Underground; Office Depot; Ghost Executive Group; and Pauli Systems, LLC. Additional sponsorships are available, for more information on sponsorships, email barcampswfl@gmail.com

Barcamp Southwest Florida will offer a special track for K-12 students. Among the workshops for the JuniorCamp will be responsible social media usage. The goal for engaging the students is to encourage positive growth in their passions and our own community.

Speakers have already come forward to discuss Blogger, Wordpress, Grüpii, RSS Feed and Social Media, Social Media Strategy, Web Design, and Personal Branding. For more information, or to register, visit http://barcampswfl.com/
